Light A Lamp has gained recognition in the Spokane Community for its mental health program for youth (Project Lift Up), and this is an important part of the nonprofit's mission. But Light A Lamp's roots are in recognizing those who make the world a better place...its beginnings back in 2014 involved showing appreciation for "local heroes" by presenting them with gift baskets.
The Community Impact Awards Night on October 17th, 2024, hearkened back to the early days of acknowledging local heroes. Light A Lamp celebrated two members of the Spokane community, Dr. David Gailey and Sgt Richie Plunkett, for their actions to inspire and uplift those around them.
"Thank you, Dr. Gailey!"
Dr. Gailey, a Cleft and Craniofacial Surgeon and Trauma Surgeon, is known for his skill and compassion. He knows that families who have a child born with a craniofacial condition need more than simply medical treatment for the child, they need someone who cares. Dr. Gailey and his team provide care, help, and kindness to these families. Thanks to Totally Kreative Video, the children and families Dr. Gailey has helped were able to show their appreciation at the event.
"Boy, am I glad to see you!"
That's not always the sentiment you hear when a police sergeant shows up. But it's what Alyssa Ecklind, the health and resource coordination manager at Spokane Regional Stabilization Center, said she felt when Spokane Police Sgt. Richie Plunkett arrived in response to her call for help with a family member having a mental health crisis. Sgt. Plunkett is known on the streets of Spokane for his compassion and caring for those in crisis. This video from Totally Kreative Video demonstrates the respect and admiration Sgt. Plunkett's colleagues have for him.
It takes a team
Team Light A Lamp thanks the sponsors and supporters who made our first Community Impact Awards Night a success. It takes a team to put on an event like this, and your support made it possible for us to honor the achievements and actions of local heroes in our community.
